00 Gauge, 1:76, 4mm/Foot
The Hornby six-wheeled sausage/milk van has been available in bothe GWR and LMS versionsions: Red LMS "Palethorpes Pork Sausages", GWR Brown "Palethorpes Royal Cambridge" and as LMS milk vans in white or maroon. However, all have the same rather crude chassis.
As the real LMS and GWR versions had detail difference (in break gear arrangements) I have produced two version of an upgraded replacement chassis.
This print is for the LMS versions which do not have tie bars between the axles.
This chassis has been designed to use HORNBY R8264 14.1mm Coach Wheels with "Romford" 2mm shouldered brass bearings (neither supplied). I would recommend removing the flanges from the centre wheel set to enable it to negotiate curves.
On some prints I have found that the brass bearings are a very tight fit so I would recommend that the bearing holes are cleaned out with a fine sharp object (pin) to ensure there is no dust from the manufacturing process.
The chassis is provided with NEM coupling pockets.
To complete the model you will need the following:
Hornby body: Red "Palethorpes Pork Sausages" or the LMS Milk Van in either white or maroon,
Buffers, wheels, couplings and paint.
I would also recommend adding weight to improve running.
To fit carefully remove the body from the original chassis (there are two very breakable clips at each end) and locate the body fixing clips into the square holes at each end. The body can be a loose fit so a little glue may be necessary.
