Product Description
00 Gauge, 1:76, 4mm/Foot

Alternative body for the Standard Hornby 0-6-0 Chassis which represents a typical GWR 1701, 1854 or 2721 Saddle Tank locomotive before they were rebuilt with pannier tanks.

1701 Class 0-6-0ST 1were built at Swindon in October 1892 and was in turn a development of the 1854 Class of six coupled saddle tanks dating from 1890. Most of these later received pannier tanks but examples survived istill with their saddle tanks nto the 1930s.

Before fitting to the chassis, the tank filler and it's sprue will have to be removed from between the two front steps. This filler cap does not print very well so I am developing an alternative in FUD with a handle (see https://www.shapeways.com/product/Q5JQRF265/gwr-tank-filler-cap).

The body is a very tight fit on some of the verions of the Hornby Chassis so it may be necessary to scrape/file a litttle material off the inside of the body shell at either end.

To produce a smooth arc for the saddle tank some fettling will be required. I chose to spray the tank with Halfords Grey Primer (Automotive primers tend to have filling properties) and filed/sanded the ridges smooth before any boiler fittings were added. This may take more than one coat to produce a satisfactoy finish. Note: to preseve detai I would recommend cleaning out the grooves with a scalple after each application of primer.

Components required to finish the locomotive:

Hornby 0-6-0 chassis as fitted to Hornby Railroad 08 Diesel shunter IInside framed), Jinty, 2721 pannier tank, Thomas the tank etc

Alan Gibson boiler fittings:
Chimney 4M735;
Dome 4M737;
Safety Valve Cover 4m 738.
