Product Description
00 Gauge, 1:76, 4mm/Foot
Siphons were constructed for the conveyance of milk in 17 gallon churns, although they were often used for other traffic (such as fresh fruit).
My GWR six wheeled Siphon kits comprise three parts, a Chassis (Part 1) Main Body (Part 2) and Roof (Part 3) which are designed to clip together. Parts 1 and 3 are common to both Diagrams O2 and O4.
This chassis (Part 1) has been designed to use HORNBY R8264 14.1mm Coach Wheels with "Romford" 2mm plain or shouldered brass bearings (neither supplied). I would recommend removing the flanges from the centre wheel set (unless your points and layout have very shallow curves).
On some prints I have found that the brass bearings are a very tight fit so I would recommend that the bearing holes are cleaned out with a fine sharp object (pin) to ensure there is no dust from the manufacturing process. In addition, remember to apply pressure directly to the axle box either side of the running board to avoid damaging the latter.
The chassis is provided with NEM coupling pockets.
To complete the model, you will need the following:
Part 2 the Siphon body of your choice, (Diagrams O2 and O4 are currently available);
